The Explorers Team uses both traditional and technological approaches to learning. We believe in homework, reading and writing, as well as hands-on constructivist teaching.

Our interdisciplinary curriculum includes a year-long unit in Careers and a unit in Research. Other units of study may be included at various times throughout the school year.

We have an affiliation with a national middle school consortium of 90+ middle schools called the Transformations Project. The purpose of this group is to connect middle schools with practicing engineers or others working in technological areas.

Following are suggestions for success on the EXPLORERS Team.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES:

  • Six different colored folders with pockets and prongs for paper in the center. Two folders will be for English, Science, Math and Social Studies. We suggest a trapper keeper type of notebook so that the folders do not become lost.
  • Plenty of lined paper, wide ruled is usually the best.
  • Two spiral notebooks with 70 or more pages, one will be for Math and one for Social Studies.
  • Pencils with erasers and erasable black ink pens.
  • Ruler with both English and Metric measures.
  • Protractor
  • Graph paper, this will be needed later in the year for Math
  • Scientific calculator
  • Book covers for Science and Math, plain brown grocery bags work just fine
