A+ Designation

Student A+ Eligibility

McCluer has been selected for A+ designation by the state. The achievement of A+ status will open doors to qualified graduating seniors for two years state-paid financial assistance to attend any state community college or state vocational/technical school in Missouri.

To participate in the program, McCluer students must meet the requirements that are as follows:

  • Attend a designated A+ school for three consecutive years prior to graduation
  • Have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Have at least a 95 percent attendance record
  • Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring
  • Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoid the unlawful use of drugs and/or alcohol
  • Apply to the program
  • Attend a Missouri community college or postsecondary vocational-technical school on a full-time basis and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher

To qualify for A+ status, the staff revised programs and upgraded technology across the curriculum to meet new standards and requirements.

The key goal of A+ schools is to assure that all students are well prepared to pursue advanced education or employment or both after graduation.

Working toward the A+ designation has had a positive impact as staff members worked to achieve the goals of the program that are as follows:

  • A reduction in student dropout rate by 0.5 percent each year until it remains at a rate of three percent or less.
  • All courses follow career pathways with measurable learning expectations that reflect Missouri standards.
  • Increase the number of graduates who attend a two- or four-year college or vocational school each year
