Rams Media Guide Contest Winner
The St. Louis Rams organization awarded a $5,000
scholarship to a McCluer North High School Senior for his cover
design for the 2000 Media Guide Cover Contest. Reporters across
the country consult the 200-page Media Guide to find detailed
information of team members. When sports reporters reach for
the guide to check game or player statistics, their first impression
will be the student's artwork.
Selected from more than 800 entries, the artwork elaborates
contest rules for a design that depicts the Super Bowl Championship
with the Lombardi Trophy. The challenge was to artistically convey
the spirit of the Rams and the championship. The Arch and fireworks
provided the backdrop in the winning design to represent the
Rams' homecoming following their win at Super Bowl XXXIV against
the Tennessee Titans. Worked entirely in colored pencil, the
finished design took two months to complete.
Best Practices Award
The Community Learning Program at McCluer North
High School has been selected as a winner of the Best Practices
Award from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education. It is one of only 10 programs statewide selected to
receive the Best Practices Award. Two teachers coordinate the
program where students have an opportunity to earn credit for
hands-on career exploration. During their CLP semester, students
select a career area and work in a local business where they
gain valuable on-the-job experience. CLP has been offered at
McCluer North for 28 years. The Best Practices sponsors are the
Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and
the Missouri Council of School Administrators.

of Education. The Blue Ribbon program recognizes schools on the

aspect of the school's operation.

School and Cross Keys Middle School swept all three scoring categories

creativity. The challenge was to send five eggs through a team-built
obstacle course without breaking any of the eggs. The first-place
standing in the state competition qualified the team for the
international competition at Iowa State University in Ames, May
24-28, where they finished ninth out of 28 teams.
