After an extensive self study and a site review by a visiting team from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Ferguson-Florissant School District has been accredited under the Missouri School Improvement Process.
The MSIP process is designed to help school districts throughout the state improve in all areas of operation. The MSIP review team examines all areas of operation and makes commendations and recommendations for improvement. The District will address the MSIP recommendations in its Comprehensive School Improvement Program.
As the visiting team leaders completed their review, they shared their responses in an exit report. Here are some of the highlights of their findings.

  • The concluding remark of the review team leaders: "You ought to feel good about your school district."
  • Ferguson-Florissant staff members exhibit a strong sense of collaboration to promote student achievement. This is not a central office slogan but something that has been internalized throughout the District.
  • At all levels, this District is strongly focused on learning.
  • Teachers are using a wide variety of instructional strategies to get to kids who learn in different ways.
  • Teachers use multiple assessments to determine instructional needs.
  • Among staff, parents and students at middle and high school levels, there is a perception of an orderly atmosphere and high level of discipline with adults taking control. The people who observed you think this is a very good place to work.
  • The dissemination of learning goals and expectations for students is done in many ways. Parents learn about the instructional program in a variety of ways at all grade levels.
  • The review team was impressed with the number of programs to address the needs of students such as the Crisis Plan for Non-Readers, Extended School Year and All-Day Kindergarten.
  • The review team wanted to bring special attention to the Extended School Year. It seems to be well thought out and targeted. You are getting done exactly what you planned to do.
  • All-Day Kindergarten, Extended School Year and Closed-Circuit Student Broadcasts are practices other schools should know about.
  • Ferguson-Florissant has the most extensive safety net under at-risk students such as the Re-Entry Center, Caroline Education Center, Positive Alternative Learning, Aggression Replacement Training, etc.
  • Very strong report on professional development-a large comprehensive program.
  • The Technology Plan is a plus.
  • One thing that really impressed everyone is the high standard of practice in management, particularly the long-range plan and the use of the document. It's not sitting on a shelf. Ferguson-Florissant is doing what we wish all school districts would do.
  • Community Education and Parent Education: The review team was impressed with the degree that you disseminate information to tell your story to your people.
  • Facilities are in excellent condition.
