    Restructuring Timeline

After much deliberation the Board of Education approved Option 2 at its October 10 meeting.  As shown on the map below, Option 2 establishes Pre-Kindergarten to Second Grade schools with full day, full week, early education with certified teachers for all three and four year-olds in the district.  These schools will help students build a strong foundation by addressing social-emotional and behavioral needs as well as developing students’ reading ability to prepare them for success in school and life.  The plan includes 6th grade buildings on middle school campuses to ease the transition to middle school.  Option 2 includes two comprehensive high schools, McCluer and McCluer North, and McCluer South-Berkeley becomes North County’s first STEAM high school.  In addition, Cool Valley will become the Innovation School for 6th-12th grade students and will offer unique programs to meet students’ educational needs including career academies and internships.  Option 2 includes many other opportunities to provide District students with a great education.

You may view a timeline that outlines the restructuring process at this link.  The timeline is intended to be an active document.  Tasks and events will be added to the timeline as we work through the process and some dates may change as needed.  Please check back often to view additional information and events.

    About the Restructuring Process

On December 4, 2017, the Board of Education and superintendent Dr. Joseph Davis shared information on the process for developing a facilities master plan in a community forum.  While no decisions have been made, the Board has directed administration to evaluate District facilities to determine needs for all students to experience a high-quality education. Following a presentation by Board President, Rob Chabot and Superintendent, Dr. Joseph Davis, attendees had an opportunity to ask questions of Dr. Davis and the Board of Education.  Due to technical difficulties, the first two attendee questions are not included.
