    Dr. Kimura is Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at Washington University in St. Louis.  He received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Applied Physics from Osaka University in Japan in 1960 and both Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Computer and Information Science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968 and 1971.  He was a computer research engineer at Mitsubishi Electric from 1960 to 1965.

    He started the first Kumon Math Center in Midwest in 1984 for his two children, Kaku and Joe, who were 5th and 4th graders in Clayton.  He had been a Kumon instructor until he closed the center in March 2020.  He operated another Kumon Center in Florissant from 2006 to 2018.

    Kaku and Joe studied Kumon Math until 8th grade in Clayton High School.  Kaku studied Russian History in Cornell University and Harvard University.  He currently works as a diplomat in the US State Department.  Joe studied pre-med in Stanford University and has a MD from Washington University Medical School.  He also has a MPH from Harvard University. Today he is Chief Medical Officer at Atrius Health in Boston.

    Dr. Kimura started Math Fitness LLC in August 2020 to develop a new math curriculum, TOKO Math®, for basic training of computational skills in arithmetic.
