Our Literacy Plan: Building Strong Readers, Writers & Thinkers

At Ferguson-Florissant School District, literacy is more than reading and writing — it’s the key that unlocks every student’s future. Our K–12 Literacy Plan lays out how we’re making that happen. Grounded in the Science of Reading and aligned to Missouri Learning Standards, the plan outlines how FFSD supports students in reading, writing, speaking, and listening across all grade levels and content areas.

From early phonics foundations to advanced comprehension, from classroom instruction to targeted intervention, the plan details how we’re:

• Strengthening teacher expertise through ongoing training and leadership development.

• Using evidence-based curriculum and practices to improve student achievement.

• Building systems for early identification and support for students who need extra help.

• Partnering with families and community organizations to create a culture of literacy.

This plan is our roadmap for ensuring every FFSD student has the literacy skills to thrive in school and beyond.

Success-Ready Students Network
FFSD is proud to be part of Missouri’s Success-Ready Students Network (SRSN) — a statewide effort to ensure every student graduates ready for college, career, and life. Through this network, we’re rethinking how learning happens: moving beyond seat time and test scores to focus on real-world skills, personalized learning, and meaningful support.

Being part of SRSN allows our schools to collaborate with other forward-thinking districts, share best practices, and pilot innovative approaches to teaching and learning — all with one goal: preparing our students for success long after graduation.
