Classes are canceled when weather conditions pose a threat to the safety of children. This includes dangerous winter weather such as ice and snow.
When the decision is made to close district schools because of inclement weather, we will use several procedures to notify the Ferguson-Florissant School District community. Notification announcements for school closings normally will be made by 5:30 a.m., and afternoon and evening activity cancellations normally will be announced by 2 p.m.
The district notifies four local broadcast outlets in the event of school closings: KMOX (1120 AM), KTVI (Channel 2), KMOV (Channel 4) and KSDK (Channel 5). These radio and television stations have reliable procedures to broadcast information on inclement weather. School closing notifications are also sent via the district’s telephone notification system, posted on the district’s website, Facebook page, Twitter account, and on the main telephone line at 314-506-9000.
