Parker Road’s “Real Men Read” Brings the Village Together

Parker Road Elementary turned an ordinary school day into something powerful with its annual Real Men Read event — and the building was packed with community strength.

In attendance were military veterans, librarians, McCluer North Students, family members of staff, district administrators, church leaders, parents, and more. Each reader brought their own life experience, energy, and voice to the classroom — showing students that literacy isn’t just a school skill; it’s a community expectation.

Readers shared books, stories, and encouragement that reminded students how reading and learning can open doors to anywhere you want to go. The atmosphere? Equal parts joy, pride, and excitement from the anticipation of this day.

Events like Real Men Read strengthen the bond between school and community while giving students living examples of what support looks like. Parker Road — you showed out.
