FFSD 2019 Support Employee of the Year

Bermuda Elementary Office Manager is the District’s 2019 Support Employee of the Year

Karen Chapman welcomes each child that enters into Bermuda with a smile and a warm greeting each and every day. Chapman, who refers to herself as a ‘district baby’ since she is a former student who has worked in the district for more than 20 years is known to tirelessly put the needs of others before her own.  She starts each day with the motto: I am a servant by nature to whoever crosses my path.  By operating with the understanding that relationship building starts with positive interactions, Chapman does whatever she can to support the parents and teachers of Bermuda.  She has been named the FFSD 2019 Support Employee of the Year.

“What is most notable about Karen and the support she provides to the educational environment in our school, is not just her attention to detail and professionalism, it’s the dedication to each and every student that walks through our doors each and every day," said, Bermuda principal, Matt Hinzpeter.

Karen goes above and beyond for students contributing to the welfare of anyone who needs her.  She regularly takes home student’s dirty clothes to wash them and then returns them the next day to change them out again so students can have clean clothes. She believes that when kids feel good about themselves they will feel more confident in the learning environment.  Her dedication to her job, students, teachers, and parents is unmatched.

"She is able to multi-task all essential office functions, helps keep teachers current on deadlines and maintains an organized and efficient system for processing important documents,” said Bermuda teacher, Kimberly Berry.

Chapman was selected FFSD’s 2019 Support Employee of the Year from among seven finalists, who were nominated by staff members and interviewed by a committee.  Other finalists were Janine Jedding (Robinwood), Jennifer Deimeke (Halls Ferry), Carman Stanton (Airport), Pat Torpea (Testing and Evaluation Depts.), Belinda Lanfer (Finance Dept.), and Karen Williams (STEAM Academy).
