Mr. Kurtis Downing

Kurtis Downing, Interim Principal

Mr. Downing brings nearly 30 years of experience in education and leadership and has held key leadership roles in Ferguson-Florissant, including most recently as an assistant principal at Ferguson Middle. Prior to that role, he served 11 years as the assistant principal at McCluer High School. Prior to joining the District, he was principal at Atchison Alternative School in Atchison, Kansas, for four years. He also served as a teacher in St. Louis Public Schools for 12 years.

Downing holds an educational specialist degree in educational administration from Lindenwood University. He also holds a master’s degree in educational administration and a bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University. Downing is a Kansas native. He and his wife have been married for 25 years. They have two daughters: one daughter earned her degree from Xavier University in New Orleans, and their youngest daughter is a sophomore at Tennessee State University.

He began his career in Ferguson-Florissant in 2012; he has built great relationships with students and parents and is looking forward to serving and leading the McCluer North family in the months ahead.

Dr. Beth Nelson

Assistant Principal -- Class of 2025

Dr. Beth Nelson is a native of the St. Louis area and considers herself a lifelong St. Louisan. She has served the students of the Ferguson Florissant School District for eight years as an English teacher, curriculum coordinator, and LTI Coordinator. She previously served as an interim assistant principal in the Francis Howell School District, an English Department Chair/Teacher in the Warrenton School District, and an English/Speech teacher in the Jennings School District.  She is passionate about student success and believes that every student has gifts and talents they can share with the world. Before working in education, Dr. Nelson worked in the corporate world as a store manager and district trainer for Home Depot. She brings that experience into her classrooms, helping students make real-world connections to their learning and planning for their future goals. Dr. Nelson believes that every student can become the master of their future and find the success they deserve.

Mr. Bobby Hughes

Assistant Principal -- Class of 2026

Mr. Hughes is delighted to serve as an assistant principal at McCluer North.  Prior to joining the Ferguson Florissant School District, Mr. Hughes was a high school science teacher for fourteen years and a STEM and Career Pathway coordinator.  Mr. Hughes is focused on supporting teachers to ensure student success.

Ms. Alexandra Suess

Assistant Principal -- Class of 2027

Suess has been in education for eight years. She previously served as an instructional support leader at Wedgwood 6th Grade Center. Prior to that role, she served as a math teacher at Ferguson Middle for six years.

She holds a master’s degree in educational administration and bachelor’s degree from University of Missouri - St. Louis.

Dr. Anissa Harris

Assistant Principal -- Class of 2024

Dr. Harris provides a unique perspective as an administrator, a graduate of Berkeley Senior High School, an office professional, a certified English teacher and for the last 13 years as an administrator.  Dr. Harris is a consummate professional leader who successfully integrates all aspects of the educational experience for community stakeholders, teachers, and fellow administrators.
