Ferguson-Florissant School District ELA Curriculum Adoption Process
-
We are in the process of a new ELA adoption for the elementary level (grades K-5) and secondary level (grades 6-12), with implementation of new ELA materials for this fall (2023).
Prior to the curriculum adoption and writing process, the District will evaluate current ELA programming to determine strengths, gaps and opportunities for better alignment to the District’s academic goals. The process includes specific requirements: alignment to state board adopted standards, accessibility for all students. The District’s adoption process is based on Board policy and the need to reflect the most current information, research and evidence based strategies and be aligned to academic content standards of the MSIP-6 and the District’s strategic plan, Equity and Access for All.
To this end, instructional materials are subject to a review process and must meet established specifications and criteria in order to be approved for use in classrooms. Stakeholders will be included in the adoption process – students, parents, teachers, administrators and community members. Their feedback is vital to selecting and implementing curriculum resources.
