This also includes the completion of all IB assessments for each course. Students have the opportunity to choose one course from each of the subject groups 1 to 6; the sixth subject, the elective course, may come from Fine Arts, or any group 3 or 4 class (Individuals and Society, or Science - instead of a course in the Arts but this is not necessarily recommended). Students must complete 3 Higher Level (HL/240 hours) and 3 Standard Level (SL/150 hours) courses. Four HL courses may be chosen with two SL courses. No more than 4 HL courses may be taken.

Additional Requirements
Additional requirements include the Creativity, Activity, & Service (CAS), and an Extended Essay core components.
Creativity, Activity, and Service activities encourage students to pursue opportunities beyond pure academics. Students complete extra-curricular service experiences, and projects, and then reflect on the time spent. Consistent time spent over 18 months is required. The Extended Essay is a research project begun during the junior year and completed during the senior year. Students choose to research a subject area that interests them and will work under the supervision of a teacher with expertise in that subject area. The length of this in-depth essay consists of less than 4,000 words. For each class taken, students will earn a McCluer North grade, and a separate IB course grade on a scale of 1-7. Students can receive university credit for the IB course grade depending on the University of their choice. In order to receive an IB Diploma from the IBO, candidates must earn a minimum of 24 points from their IB courses. At least 21 points would have to be earned from the combined total of all six IB subject area course grades. Three points come from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay courses. Candidates must also receive a minimum of 12 points from their Higher Level subjects and a minimum of 9 points from their Standard Level subjects. For more information please contact the IB Coordinator, visit www.ibo.org, or the McCluer North IB webpage at https://mccluernorthib.weebly.com.
