McCluer Student Receives Quest Scholarship to Study Abroad
SweetP Owens, a junior at McCluer, was selected as a 2021 Quest Scholar and will have the opportunity to study abroad in Spain this summer. The Quest Scholarship Fund provides matching grants and one-on-one mentoring to help St. Louis area students have the chance to study overseas.
"Studying abroad is a great opportunity for our students," said Dr. Courtney Ford, assistant principal at McCluer. "Students not only see a different culture, but they get the chance to live it."
Owens is active in her school community, maintaining a 4.27 GPA while actively participating in volleyball, soccer, and student government. She is also part of the Washington University College Prep program. The program is a three-year immersive learning experience that successfully prepares first-generation college students for college life and beyond.
"I am looking forward to the experience of studying abroad and seeing if that is what I want to do in college. I am currently taking Spanish, and I can't wait to experience the Spanish culture first hand," said Owens.
The Quest Scholarship Fund is a component fund of the St. Louis Community Foundation, a Missouri non-profit. Quest scholarships offer high achieving students from underserved high schools in the St. Louis area the opportunity to step outside their local community by studying abroad.
