Board of Education Begins Comprehensive Policy Revision Efforts

Following a kick-off meeting held on October 9, the Board of Education has officially begun a comprehensive revision of its policies. This revision process, which started over two years ago, is aimed at updating policies with guidance from the Missouri School Boards Association (MSBA). The revision teams include staff, students, teachers, parents, community members, FFNEA representatives, and board members.

The Board’s goal is to make sure this process is transparent and inclusive, with plenty of opportunities for community feedback. Although the Board will make the final decisions, they are committed to involving staff, families, and students throughout the revision process.

Given that many of the policies have not been updated in a considerable time, the review is both timely and necessary. The process is expected to be completed with a final reading by March 2025.

Once the policy overhaul is complete, the Board also plans to implement an annual review process, where different policy sections will be updated on a regular basis. To make sure this continues, an official Board Policy Committee will be created to handle all future policy updates.

This committee will help keep the policies up-to-date and aligned with the district’s mission and vision.
